Relay For Life 2010
When: April 10-11 7PM – 7AM
Where: Drexel Armory
Goal: $65,000

This will be the fourth consecutive year Drexel students, staff, family, and friends will be participating in Relay For Life, here at Drexel University.  After raising over $111,000 in its short history at Drexel, the bar is set high to raise $65,000 this year.

Drexel's Relay For Life is a 12-hour overnight philanthropy event designed to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society.  Teams of 8-15 participants begin walking the indoor track at the Armory, having at least 1 participant on the track for the entire 12-hour period. Teams typically host fundraisers and ask for sponsors from friends and family to meet their individual and team fundraising goals. The evening is filled with games, live performances, free food, and heartfelt ceremonies, all tailored around a common purpose: celebrating our lives and accomplishments, remembering those impacted by cancer, and fighting back to find a cure and make an impact.

Great Job Pi Class

Congratulations to the Pi Pledge Class on their Initiation on February 19, 2010.  Each member of the class worked tremendously hard in reaching personal goals, getting to know brothers and each other in the class, along with preparing themselves for their time for when they would become a brother of the Pi Kappa Alpha Lambda Zeta Chapter.  The Pi Class raised a little over $2,000 in fundraising and did a little over 1,000 hours of community service.  We are all proud of these new guys and are happy to call them our brothers.

Broad Street Bikers: Wheeling to the Winter Classic

Back in late November, Brothers Pat Montgomery and Drew Moriarity decided to ride a tandem bicycle from The Spectrum in Philadelphia to Fenway Park in Boston for this year’s NHL Winter Classic.  Looked on as crazy by many friends and family, they completed the trip in five days – riding over 300 miles!  Why would they take on such an insane trek?  To raise funds for the poor and abandoned people of our city!

They are working together with the Blessed Sarnelli Community in Philadelphia, PA to raise funds for their cause and have raised of $4,200.  Sarnelli is a non-profit organization dedicated to meeting the needs of people who are poor and abandoned in Philadelphia.  Visit Sarnelli's website at www.bscphilly.org.

Pike Takes the Field for Community Service
On Sunday, November 15th, the Lambda Zeta chapter of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity along with friends participated in the Field of Dreams Workday.  The event was hosted by Tom Toscani, the manger of the little league baseball complex known as the Field of Dreams.  The complex relies on public upkeep and gathers help and manual labor from residents and groups willing to make the trip to Paoli.  On this day, there was plenty of work to go around, as several fields needed to be sodded, signs needed to be replaced, and the complex needed to be cleaned.  The day was a success, beginning at 8 am and ending shortly before 1 pm.  Using the tools provided and a good effort, the work was done efficiently and under the management of the Field of Dreams operations team.
